Godly Men are Generous
Money offers at least 3 “False Promises”
Security, Peace, and Happiness.
Between 2010 and 2020 the Permian Basin in west Texas experienced the greatest oil boom in history. But, on April 21, 2020 that historic boom turned into a historic bust.
On that day for the first time in history, the price of West Texas intermediate crude went negative, trading a negative -$30 a barrel.
David Arrington, a millionaire oilman, to keep from crying, placed a billboard near Midland, TX. It read “Will trade oil for toilet paper.”
Money offers a false sense of security.
Like oil futures, money and possessions don’t offer lasting security.
Winston Churchill…” We work to make a living, but we give to make a life.”
That’s so true, life is defined by what we pass on to others, what we give.
Oswald Sanders said…” The great use of one’s life is computed not by its duration but by its donation.”
Have you never met a generous person who stopped being generous?
Also, I have never met a generous person who is an angry, bitter, person. Generous living produces emotional happiness.
Who all is involved when a gift is given? The giver, the recipient, and everyone who hears about it…plus God is glorified…. A 4-fold win
How might your material gifts can have spiritual implications…Examples?
2 Corinthians 9:12 “The needs of the believers in Jerusalem were met, and they joyfully expressed they’re thanks to God
Consider these questions;
. What will you be remember?
. What kind of an impact did you make
. Whose lives will you have touched?
A legacy of generosity can answer all of these questions…because we are defined by our generosity.
As people transformed by the Holy Spirit...How is our giving different? Worldly people can be generous.
