An Effective and Productive Leader
If you are a man, you are a leader. You may not consider yourself a leader, you may not currently have a family, a business, or you may not realize that you have leadership responsibilities. But as a man, God has created you to lead, provide and protect.
As a Christian man, the Bible is our leadership manual. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
For the past twenty year I have had the honor and the responsibility of leading this ministry to men. I had never considered myself a strong leader. In the early years of Rugged Faith, I was a reluctant leader pulled along by God’s calling on my life. Over the past few years, I have learned to lean on the Word of God, on prayer and on the support of other godly men to lead the ministry.
One section of Scripture the has been an anchor to me is 2 Peter 1:5-10. The wisdom found in this section of scripture tells us to “add too” to supplement our faith. No leader can be excellent in all areas, but as we grow in each area, one linked to the next, we gain wisdom to lead. Peter says “add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to kindness, love.”
The Bible adds the benefits, or the “So That” aspects of these leadership links. 2 Peter 5:8 reminds us “if you do these in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive.” This is such awesome leadership wisdom from God’s Word. It can keep us from being ineffective in all we do. It can keep us from being unproductive in our spiritual and personal life.
We are a product of what we practice. Growing in the fruits of the Sprit through abiding in Christ is key to effective and productive leadership. A well know pastor said, “Go deep in your faith in you want to expand your influence with others.”
An effective and productive leader is thoroughly equipped with wisdom from God’s Word.
